Community group training

Our key aim is to help build capacity and skills in community development practice.

We have created a tailored, quarterly training calendar based on the needs of community and voluntary groups in the Lisburn & Castlereagh area.

Community Development Officers also provide a tailored, bespoke training package to community/voluntary groups on request, in areas such as good governance, successful fundraising and completing funding applications.

Risk assessment training	This course will cover the following: what is a risk assessment - legal, insurance, claims, keep people safe consideration of key phrases - hazard, risk, severity, likelihood health & Safety Executive’s 5 steps to risk assessments practical review of how to complete a risk assessment hierarchy of controls - examples for some key hazards. Defibrillator training	Defibrillator training sessions comprise of: primary survey recovery position CPR AED awareness. Completing funding applications training	In this course, our community development officers will take you step by step through techniques recommended when completing funding application forms. Makaton training	These sessions are delivered by a qualified speech therapist and Makaton tutor and are suitable for those with limited or no prior experience of using Makaton. Once completed, users will receive a Makaton manual and level one certificate. Keeping children safe training for volunteers	Child protection course outline: improve understanding of good practice and good boundary management in relationships with children/young people increase awareness of forms of abuse help participants recognise risk factors, vulnerabilities, and child protection issues increase awareness of roles/responsibilities of self and others increase awareness of the legal and rights context for practice raise awareness of key safeguarding issues from case reviews and research help participants to relate roles and responsibilities to organisation policy and procedures increase knowledge of, and competence in, reporting concerns improve understanding of the complex context of child abuse. Canva training	This interactive session will explain what Canva can be used for and will outline: brand kits basic navigation walk through of creating and editing content. *It is advisable to bring a laptop/tablet to follow along with the course. Food hygiene awareness training	This course raises awareness of the risks associated with working where food is prepared. The course will cover: the importance of food hygiene key legislation main hazards and control measures. Basic Food Hygiene Level 1 certificates will be issued on completion of the course. Committee training - roles and responsibilities	This course will provide details of the roles and responsibilities required for a committee. It will outline the duties of each of the office bearers and provide an overview of ensuring good governance for the organisation. Facilities management	This course has been developed to support organisations who have a role within managing a facility. Topics will include: understanding your lease or service level agreement your roles and responsibilities how to effectively manage a facility practical facilities guidance policies/procedures. Fire safety training	This course is suitable for anyone who will be taking on the role of a fire warden in their organisation or community group and has a duty to take charge and guide others to safety in the case of a fire. Through this training, attendees will learn: how fires can start and the dangers they pose fire prevention and control measures evacuation procedures The course will include a practical demonstration using fire extinguishers and their appropriate use. Autism awareness	Autism Awareness is aimed at helping frontline staff and volunteers effectively support people on the autistic spectrum. By the end of the course learners will: know the common characteristics of autism and understand that every person with autism is unique understand the sensory needs associated with autism understand the mental health needs associated with autism understand behaviours that are perceived to challenge know the challenges someone with autism may face with transition and change, and how you can support them explore alternative and augmentative communication techniques. Booking terms and conditions

Places on the courses listed above are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. We can accept a maximum of two people per community group. Places must be booked and confirmed by emailing community.services@lisburncastlereagh.gov.uk. Cancellations by organisations and/or individuals must be notified to the community services or community development teams at least 7 days before the training date. Non-attendance will be recorded and considered when assessing booking further training opportunities.
