Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council is inviting residents, businesses, community organisations and other stakeholders to have their say on a new CCTV and Visual Security Systems (VSS) Policy.
The draft policy has been developed to establish a clear framework for the governance, management and oversight of CCTV and visual security systems operated by the Council.
The policy sets out how surveillance technologies will be managed in line with data protection legislation, national guidance and recognised best practice. It covers areas including privacy, accountability, information governance, system management and operational standards.
The consultation gives the public an opportunity to review the draft policy and provide feedback before it is brought forward for final consideration.
Chair of the Regeneration & Growth Committee, Alderman James Baird, said: "Protecting privacy while supporting public safety is something the Council takes very seriously. We want to hear from residents, businesses and community organisations on this proposed policy before it is finalised, and I would encourage everyone with an interest in the topic to take part in the consultation."
This consultation relates to the Council's CCTV and Visual Security Systems Policy and is separate from operational arrangements for CCTV monitoring services. The policy will apply across the Council estate and to those areas monitored by the Council as part of its public safety responsibilities. The consultation focuses on the governance, accountability and management arrangements for CCTV and visual security systems.
The consultation is open until Monday 19th October at 12 noon.
